Biography

Dutch soprano Irene Hoogveld completed her Master degree with Distinction at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as a Master in Performance. She was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma for excellence in her contemporary classical music work. She received her Bachelor’s degree Cum Laude at ArtEZ University of the Arts.

In 2023 ms. Hoogveld sang Tosca (Puccini) at the festival Opera Aan Zee in the Netherlands. In 2022 Ms. Hoogveld performed Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana (Mascagni) with Opera op ‘t Hogeland and with De Kleine Opera. In 2021 she performed Santuzza, the Fremde Fürstin in Rusalka (Dvořák) and in 2020 she sang in Ritratto (Jeths) with the Dutch National Opera. She also sang Cunning Little Vixen (Janáček): Jay with London Symphony Orchestra/Sir Simon Rattle, and in the world premiere of Thijl – van Gilse she performed as Gilline and the Dame van Dudzeele. In oratorio repertoire she has sung the Messa di Requiem – Verdi, Elias – Mendelssohn, Gloria – Poulenc and Te Deum – Dvořák.

As a songstress ms. Hoogveld made her Barbican Hall debut with Russian repertoire in 2018, and sang contemporary music twice in Wigmore Hall in 2019. In 2022 she and pianist Maxime Snaterse were selected to join the Dutch Song Society and their programme ONTspanning featuring Wagners Wesendoncklieder toured all over the Netherlands in 2023. Their newest programme Aurore featuring songs by Mahler, Britten and Bosmans will premiere in 2024.

Driven by a passion for contemporary Dutch classical music Ms. Hoogveld has performed and recorded premieres of Dutch composers like Tera de Marez Oyens, Bernard van Beurden and Joep Franssens, which was broadcasted live on national radio.

In 2021 Ms. Hoogveld created three short operatic monodramas for unaccompanied soprano solo called EER(S)T DE DAME. She wrote the Dutch libretto for all three pieces, and composed one of them. The pieces continue to be performed regularly since their inception.

Ms. Hoogveld received the Association Friends of the IVC Prize during the International Vocal Competition Den Bosch 2022, and had been selected to compete in the 2024 edition. She was selected to receive a Stipend to attend the Bayreuther Festspiele 2023 by the Dutch Wagner Society.

The roles ms. Hoogveld prepares currently are: Senta (Wagner), Elettra (Mozart) and Magda Sorel (Menotti) and will be revisiting Santuzza for the Opera aan Zee festival in August 2024. Furthermore, she is curating a programme around Lady Macbeth featuring music by Verdi et al. for a recital in the Concertgebouw in November 2024.
