Biography

Dutch soprano Irene Hoogveld completed her Master degree with Distinction at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma for excellence in her contemporary classical music work. She received her Bachelor’s degree Cum Laude at ArtEZ University of the Arts.

In 2025 ms. Hoogveld sang Tosca (selections) with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and joined the Sonderchor of the Bayreuther Festspiele. She has sung Tosca (Puccini) and Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) at the festival Opera Aan Zee in the Netherlands, performed Santuzza with Opera op ‘t Hogeland and with De Kleine Opera, the Fremde Fürstin in Rusalka (Dvořák), and in Ritratto (Jeths) with the Dutch National Opera. She also sang Cunning Little Vixen (Janáček): Jay with London Symphony Orchestra/Sir Simon Rattle and Gilline in the world premiere of Thijl – van Gilse. In oratorio repertoire she has sung music by Brahms, Verdi, Poulenc, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Händel, Haydn, Bach, Vivaldi, Tippett and Frank Martin.

As a songstress ms. Hoogveld made her Barbican Hall debut with Russian repertoire in 2018, and sang two contemporary recitals in Wigmore Hall in 2019. Ms. Hoogveld has performed and recorded premieres of notable Dutch composers as Bernard van Beurden and Tera de Marez Oyens. In 2024 she performed song recitals in the Concertgebouw, De Vereeniging and Theater aan de Parade. She joined the Dutch Song Society in 2022 and has since toured with two programs: STRESSless and Aurore, Shades of Night and Dawn.

Driven by a passion for contemporary music ms. Hoogveld has sung premieres for composers as Willem Jeths, Bernard van Beurden, Terence Allbright and Joep Franssens. Furthermore Ms. Hoogveld has created three operatic monodramas for unaccompanied voice called EER(S)T DE DAME in 2021. She wrote the original Dutch libretto’s, and composed one herself using her native local dialects and languages.

Ms. Hoogveld received the IVC Friends Prize during the International Vocal Competition Den Bosch 2022, and was subsequently selected to receive a Stipend for the Bayreuther Festspiele 2023 by the Dutch Wagner Society.
